Brooklyn Backstretch had a post yesterday where she discussed the idea of putting a sports bar at Aqueduct, and offering free drinks to women, in order to get men to show up. Back before Mrs. Not Really was not really a Not Really, I, on occasion, could be coerced into frequenting establishments that professed to have a disproportionate number of the human Distaff division in attendance.

I have suggested using the tracks as concert venues and maybe flea markets or farmer's markets, during the racing season. If you attend the market or concert, you get free admission and a voucher for a bet. The beauty is, you can watch the horses work out as you buy some veggies and hemp soap.
Hold the state fair there. Use revenues for purse structure or for operating costs, freeing up those monies for purses. Whatever.

Lobbyist 1 was reporting to Blagojevich about his efforts to collect a contribution from Contributor 1 and related that he got in his face to make it clear to Contributor 1 that a commitment to make a campaign contribution had to be done now, before there could be some skittishness over the timing of the contribution and Blagojevich signing a bill that would benefit Contributor 1. Blagojevich commented to Lobbyist 1 good and good job. The bill in question, which is awaiting Blagojevich s signature, is believed to be legislation that directs a percentage of casino revenue to the horse racing industry."
