Stream of consciousness

Winter is coming.

The shorter days and shorter fields make for an unpalatable repast. Thoughts turn to the Winter Santa Anita meet and possibly Gulfstream, which I will, sadly, experience in person. The weather is fine but I just have no stomach for South Florida or any part of Florida for that matter.

It will be telling, though, to get a glimpse of Stronach's fustercluck and see if it is in fact the dingleberry everyone makes it out to be. Virgin report to come...

Blackwatch Stables LLC hired itself an accountant, and a damn good one (so he tells me), so our Empire is extending its marches with the inexorable cavalcade of the Roman Equites. How cool is it that the Brits have a Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer? I have no idea what it is or does but it is such a bitchin' name.

We have also entered preliminary negotiations to retain legal counsel, a veritable shark esquire, to fend off the hordes of barbarians at our gate.

TDN (free sub reqd) has a great interview with Halsey Minor in today's issue.

Thatsamore has a good piece on the trouble with consolidation in the industry and for grins I am going to argue the opposite side. Not today but soon...stay tuned.

We are contemplating diversifying our portfolio with steeplechasing and harness racing interests. Pullthepocket is the TBA resident harness expert and is slowly piquing our curiosity toward that millieu.

Someone will have to enlighten us about the jumps. A Spring trip to Ireland might be in order; we hear they do some of that jumping over there. Bill Barich's 'A fine place to daydream', is an entertaining read about his foray into that world. We enjoyed it infinitely more than his first book, which just didn't resonate with us. Tripledeadheat has an excellent review on 'Laughing in the Hills'.

Dam is up.

I've been to Gulfstream several times it's usually in the January rotation. When are you going?

Maybe it's because I usually haven't seen the sun in months that I'm not such a basher...and I actually like the paddock area.

Good accountants are hard to come by these days...you're lucky. ;)
