Ideas and observations:
- Why not try something like this between races in the paddock or winner's circle. Get local stars to come in and lend some cachet to the day.
- (Some housekeeping) Since we all know that Friday is going to be the quality day for the 2008 Breeders' Cup and that the Filly and Mare Classic will trump Saturday's version, why not kick the holiday season off a little early and go shopping on Saturday. My 401k could use the help.
- Slaughter for human consumption is a distinction without a difference. Slaughter for the sake of slaughter is o.k.?
- I don't think Jones/Squires did it, however I disagree with this statement from Squires:
“Holding Jones responsible for something beyond his control only aids and abets criminal behavior by people intent on hurting a competitor in particular or our industry in general.
Someone has to be ultimately responsible. Maybe 200+ horses in a barn is too much for someone to manage. "Saddling" a horse 2000 miles away is a joke and then crying foul when that horse pulls a positive is disingenuous.
Update: I am setting the over/under for Commentator's winning margin at 73/4lengths. Any takers?

Commentator is only seven years old? One more year and he'll be old enough to face Big Brown...
I really like this horse. There's a redeeming quality to a seven year old who's overcome so much adversity to race as well as he has. The people need a new John Henry.

Watching him win the Whitney is one of my favorite Saratoga moments...also saw him lose the Met Mile, though, so it all depends on who comes at him. Obviously, I'll be rooting for him...
Love Commentator, with BB, seeing him win in the Whitney was classic..but I will take the under--first rule in betting-always take the under -when they start the race I already have 7 & 3/4 lengths to play with.
Keith-We definitely need more of his type.
Brooklyn-Don't think there is a Divine Park in the field so whichever Commentator shows up, I think he romps.
Saratoga-Probably wise.

Damn...14 lengths...are you freakin' kidding me? I bet you thought 7 3/4 was a pretty safe line...looking forward to the Curlin over/under line next week.
I don't know if it is good or bad that Commentator got almost nothing out of this paid workout.
If they do decide to go for the Classic, he is probably going to need more of a foundation than Zito's string of 4f works is going to give him. It looks like there is going to be plenty of speed in the non-Filly and Mare Classic.
