Swing and a miss...

Here are the results.

I made it late to the OTB for the first race but the horse won at 2.5-1. Looking back on it now that was a bad move on my part.

Race 2 I figured wrong. Liqueur came back in fine form and won, also at almost 4-1, he was a much better bet than the $20 I put on Ask Sidney to watch him come up short by a 1/2. Bad betting strategy got me there. I need to work on that. I'm not so concerned with my handicapping anymore, what I think is going to kill me at the windows is my betting.

Race 3 I liked Morghyn and she went off at over 2-1. I was not super high on her though and the close loss in the last race kind of messed with me so I passed the race. I actually passed the rest of the card as far as betting went.

Race 4 and 5 we passed in handicapping.

Race 6 Por Favor finished second but at 1.5-1 he did not merit a bet. Antrim County who went off at more than 5-1 showed enough credentials on paper to warrant the bet but I wasn't too keen on him to start.

Passed race 7.

Race 8 I was looking at this race as it was coming up and I really didn't like the the favorite but SwingIt at over 3-1 didn't really call to me as I looked closer at him. I was thinking of playing the exacta with Swingit on top and I was going to wheel the 4 and the 3. I couldn't really decide and the race went off. The 4 won and I saved myself $4. I left the OTB after the eighth.

Race 9 My horse finished second but at 4-5 would not have merited a bet.

Race 10 My pick won and at 3-1 would have warranted a wager. Seeing how I was not so confident going into it I was better off leaving early. My other choice went off at 1.5-1 so between the two the 3 would have been the way to go but since my betting strategy is crap anyway I probably would not have pulled the trigger. Anyway this is not a column on hypotheticals. It's not much of anything really but that is neither here nor there.

So my strike rate was 3 for 7 today but I lost money on the day with only one bet. Bad strategy, bad decision making bad everything.

I'm beginning to think that my financial adviser may have been right when he strongly disagreed with my decision to cash out my 401k to play the horses...
