Dance with the girl who brung ya

Is Vic Stauffer the Rodney Dangerfield of racing?

I liked him as an announcer. Hollywood shitcanned his ass. OK, their decision, fair enough. I assume they had their reasons.

Joel Rosario has been tearing it up on the left coast and as a measure of gratitude, decides to fire Stauffer.

I respect the free market and believe every person deserves to get paid exactly what the market will bear but Ebanks had Tyler Baze's book and Rosario pwned his ass.

"I got him at the fall meet of Hollywood in 2008," Stauffer said. "At that time, he was 10th in the standings; he ended up second. The next meet was the main one at Santa Anita, he finished third. The next meet was Hollywood spring; he was leading rider. Then was Del Mar; he was leading rider. Then came Oak Tree. He had a chance to tie for the title in the last race of the meet, and finished second.

"The next meet was Hollywood fall, and he was leading rider. In 2009, he was fifth in North America in purse earnings, and thus far this year, he is third in North America in purse earnings and the leading stakes winner at Santa Anita this meet, second in the standings, and he's missed 11 days."

I have no idea what the politics of agent relationships are out there, or anywhere for that matter, but how much better will Rosario do?

I loved Spencer Ross as an announcer. I always liked when he did the old ABA Nets. He was the best.

Don't have anything to say about the agent switch (though it is perplexing as an outsider), but I also liked him as a race caller. He wasn't afraid to let his emotions show during the call of the race.

Spencer Ross?? Where did that come from? He was the best back in the ABA days at the old Island Garden.

Wow, another Spencer Ross fan here. Speaking of the ABA, how about John Sterling when he would call "Super John Williamson" after he nailed a big rebound or tapped in a rebound for a score? Those were the days?

This could be the beginning of the end for Rosario. Stauffer made him what he was in NoCal and then again in SoCal. When jocks start switching agents, it's a warning to owners and trainers who'd been successful w/ Stauffer handling his book.

Stauffer may have the last laugh. Martin Garcia was the hotshot coming to SoCal before Rosario was. The kid paid his dues in NoCal, defeating Russell Baze for a riding title if memory serves correct. That's unheard of!

Garcia is hot and in with Baffert fresh off wins w/ CONVEYANCE and MISREMEMBERED. Rosario's jealousy got the best of him. He should have been patient, but he's too young to realize this business is cyclical. He forgot that he was the big dog in that twosome. Instead of cheering for the team, like McCarron would for Solis and vice-versa when Scotty McClellan handled their busy books, he got sick with that "me, me, me" attitude that ails young people these days.
