Algonquin for...WTF?

Notes from the road.

Southern Equine Stable paid $14million for Better than Honour from the dispersal sale of Hill 'n' Dale and...Southern Equine Stable. Hill 'n' Dale was the consignor. Why Moreno couldn't just cut Sikura a check is beyond me. Maybe he is planning on feeding her tulips to try and recoup his cost.

Illinois owners and equine advocates announced plans for a new humane shelter and adoption center for Illinois horses. The Illinois Equine Humane Center (ILEHC).

The new racino proposal for Hawthorne sits across the street from the Cicero Community Park and the proposed shopping mall that will sit where Sportsman's Park stood. Sportsman's Park is where War Emblem won the Illinois Derby en route to taking the first two legs of the Triple Crown. These developers apparently don't talk to each other.

I am told we are approaching an election of some kind and for those of you who live in Maryland, with an interest in such things, fellow TBA blogger, Thatsamorestable, makes his case for the slots referendum.

I happened to be in the vicinity of Hawthorne last Thursday and decided to drop in and pick up my Illinois Racing Board, owner's license. My timing is, as always, impeccable, seeing how Hawthorne runs its winter meet through January 9th and I will not be in Chicago for the rest of the year.

The license comes with a parking pass so I was very excited. I walked around the entire track just flashing it at anybody that came within fifteen feet of me. Most people avoided eye contact and seemed to remember some pressing business in the opposite direction.

I could have sworn I saw Alice Cooper there...
