Excuse me while I vomit....or, I need a new t.v.

This will be quick.

TVG sucks.

Their coverage of today's Haskell GI, is something that can only be described as sycophantic and pimpish.

Frank Lyons, who is one of the few personalities on the channel that I like, was the co-host for TVG's coverage of the Haskell. Todd Schrupp and Jill Byrne could barely take their tongue's out of his ass long enough to contribute to the show.

Iavarone is a great guy, Dutrow is misunderstood. Not one single question as to why they are with a trainer who is a damn liar and a cheat. The owner is not far behind in that category either. Lyons was allowed to go on and on about how great a team they are and how well Big Brown was doing. If one were unaware of horse racing-thanks NTRA-one might come away with the impression that BB's last race was only a misstep in the path of a noble stable.

The Society of Professional Journalists (first hit I received on Google), has a code of ethics to which a news agency or journalists should adhere to. Among those:

Act Independently
Journalists should be free of obligation to any interest other than the public's right to know.

Journalists should:

—Avoid conflicts of interest, real or perceived.
— Remain free of associations and activities that may compromise integrity or damage credibility.
— Refuse gifts, favors, fees, free travel and special treatment, and shun secondary employment, political involvement, public office and service in community organizations if they compromise journalistic integrity.
— Disclose unavoidable conflicts.
— Be vigilant and courageous about holding those with power accountable.
— Deny favored treatment to advertisers and special interests and resist their pressure to influence news coverage.
— Be wary of sources offering information for favors or money; avoid bidding for news.

A resounding "F" in all categories as far as I'm concerned.

Not surprising they are for sale. Your thoughts....

Good lord, I'll never complain about not having TVG again. We had their coverage on a local channel and I couldn't agree more with your ASSessment.

Agree TVG coverage can be horrible, but should you be holding Lyons et al to journalistic standards? They're not reporters, even if they sometimes play journalists on TV, they're entertainers and personalities (and some would say shills for their exotic wagers and TVG's ADW service).

Dana-Anyone that agrees with me is A O.K.

Jessica-You make an excellent argument and one that sent me scrambling for information to back me up. Fortunately I was able to find something and not have to skulk away. I hope this link works because I have no idea how else to put it up here.
http://www.tvg.com/Open/TVGNetwork/PressRelease.aspx?ID=49662. They claim to be reporting from Monmouth.
It is a thin thread but one I clutch on to with desperation.

Your point is well taken though and I should not expect more from the network than is provided. It is curious to me though that they are a partner of the NTRA.

Lyons I have no issues with. He is not a reporter but a personality as you say.

Thanks for reading.

I'm not a harness racing fan, but I watched NBC's coverage of the Hambletonian on Saturday because of the undefeated Deweycheatumnhowe. They were no less "sycophantic and pimpish" with their coverage of the winner, but it seemed so much more tolerable when the connections weren't proven liars and cheats.
