Happy Mother's Day

Of course this only applies if you are in fact a mother. Otherwise...as you were.

I fancy myself a social scientist who studies prior physical performances in the equine athlete and compares them to other similarly rated athletes in an attempt to assess the proper risk reward ratio in all possible permutations to extract an appropriate fiduciary outcome. This practice and a miniscule understanding of the female sex has led me to deduce that if I were to spend today in the aforementioned pursuit and watching those televised events, I make it 1/9 that my wife would kick my ass.

So no picks or handicapping today.

On the business front I have decided that purchasing a well bred, conformationally correct filly, that exhibits a fair amount of athleticism from a private breeder is the way to go. If she has any talent and is remotely successful at the track, maybe in state bred events or open races if I am VERY lucky, then I can in turn breed her and sell or race her subsequent offspring. I figure, $25-$35k to purchase the horse and then $2500/month plus vet bills to race her. If she demonstrates any ability she should at least pay her way, if she is no good we can put her in for a claim and start again or just play the claiming game from there.

The meeting with the trainer on Saturday will give me a better idea of how that will shake out and hopefully I can visit the breeding farms and see what I see.

Now I just need the money...
