Dysfunctional pizza

Every so often, my friends and I get together to watch some football and invariably decide to order pizza. This process, inevitably, degenerates into a comedy of miscommunication and infantile tantrums, rarely seen outside of a "TO"/"Ocho-cinco" press conference.

Chronologically mature adults, grousing and peevish, disquieted by an imbalance in the pool of a mere dollar or two and resorting to name calling, is a sobering reminder of the reason I love the parimutuel system and Solo Circumnavigation.

The TBA was created as a venue for a motley coterie of horse racing enthusiasts, to blog about the sport they love and to instill some small change in the industry. We donate to horse related charities and welcome sponsors who share that vision. We don't always agree but we have a greater love of the sport at heart and we can all fall in behind that.

Someone has to be the Vexillarius.

So, upon careful introspection, I am willing to cut the industry insiders some slack, given their propensity for filibustering and perceived incompetence.

What remains to be seen is if anyone else will do the same; time has a funny way of moving on and it is not long before the game is over and nobody really feels like having pizza anymore.

I knew a guy who was the Vexillarius with his group of Roman re-enactors. They were a bit less peculiar than the British American Civil War re-enactors I knew who troubled the London suburbs of a weekend.
